Blackjack is an immensely popular card game played by millions of people around the world and has consistently been one of the most popular casino games on the planet for decades. Before you play a game, however, it is important to know the rules. Fortunately, the rules in blackjack are pretty simple and easy to learn. The goal of blackjack is to get the total value of your cards as close to 21 as possible without going over. Players play against the dealer and not against each other. Each player is dealt two cards, one face up and one face down.
Getting 21 with your first two cards is called getting blackjack and it is an automatic win in almost all cases. There are a number of actions that you can take the most common being hitting or standing. When you get hit, you get an additional card from the dealer to try and get closer to 21. If you choose to stand, you accept no more cards and choose to keep the hand that you have already. There are also three additional moves that you can take but these are used in fewer circumstances. You can double down which is doubling the amount you bet but you are only allowed one more card. You can split a pair which is making two hands out of a pair of cards and having a bet on each hand and surrendering which is where you get to take back half of your bet in return for sitting out of the hand.
